thoughts about Thomas
I was thinking the other day, that the story of doubting Thomas can be seen from a different perspective than the one presented by children’s Sunday school teachers.
Maybe it’s not at all a story about this bad, bad man who (how could he!) had some doubts about the resurrection of his teacher named Jesus. Maybe it is not about how terrible, but about how normal - or usual - doubt is.

Panic-er
I have this little panic-er person in my head. Something like a leprechaun, really. It just sits there and panics, sometimes for no good reason at all.
I wish I knew how to make him move out.

revelations
As we were leaving the parking lot of Grammy’s nursing home, I noticed a car with a plate reading “The battle is the Lord’s” and it struck me. Of course, I’ve heard it before, but it never really meant anything to me. For some reason I thought it had something to do with God being my avenger and such.
But this time as I read the verse, it suddenly had a new and very...

Old boatswan, take the parrot off your shoulder, I came to visit with you for a minute. I am a rookie sailor, and when a storm starts, I can’t prevent my knees from shaking. It’s not that I’m afraid - it’s just that I’m not used to it, Even though I should be a captain at this age. I want to be able to do everything, so tell me, old man, how to be kind, big, wise, and...

living history
We went to listen to Jimmy Carter teach Sunday school. It was neat!
He has a lot of charisma, and he is about as tall as I am.
