thoughts about Thomas

I was thinking the other day, that the story of doubting Thomas can be seen from a different perspective than the one presented by children’s Sunday school teachers.

Maybe it’s not at all a story about this bad, bad man who (how could he!) had some doubts about the resurrection of his teacher named Jesus. Maybe it is not about how terrible, but about how normal - or usual - doubt is.

I mean, Thomas is not punished in any way, is he? Jesus does not rebuke him or anything. It’s not as if all the other apostles believed Jesus from the start and spend 3 days sitting by the tomb, waiting for the resurrection…

I am not trying to say that doubt is good, just that it is normal. We all doubt God at certain points in our life, the question is how we handle this doubt.

What do you think?
